Dandiya Night 2024
This night will have garba, dandiya raas, aarti, food, and Bollywood music to celebrate Navratri!
We present to you Dandiya Night for this year! It will be held on Friday, October 18th, in REC 243 at 6:00 PM.
Navratri
Navratri is a Hindu Festival that lasts nine nights and nine days. It is a tribute to Shakti, which is the divine cosmic energy that represents feminine energy and power. This festival celebrates the different forms of the Goddess Durga on each day. Navratri is celebrated for different reasons across India, but for the most part, it is believed that during this time was when Goddess Durga defeated Mahishasur, the buffalo demon who represents evil and ego. There is also the history of Ramayan associated with this festival since it was on Dashami, the day after Navratri ends, that Lord Ram killed Ravan.
Our Event
This event attracts hundreds of people from Texas A&M University and the Bryan-College Station community. Everyone of all races and faiths come together on campus to do garba and dandiya raas. Garba is a dance in which people dance around in a circle, often around a centerpiece of flowers, lamps, and an idol of Goddess Durga. Dandiya Raas is a fast-paced dance in which dancers with dandiya (decorated sticks) strike the sticks with the person in front of them.
Come celebrate with us at our next Dandiya Night this October, where there will be good music and food.
